Steph has been a nurse for more than 37 years with the last 22 years spent working in the community. She is both an adult and children’s trained general nurse as well as being a very proud District Nurse. Steph was the Chief Nurse at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust. She also spent 3 years working at the CQC as the National Professional Adviser for Community Services

Steph led the national trailblazer group for the District Nurse Apprenticeship standard which is now being delivered in many English universities. She also co-chaired the Clinical Reference Group for the National Community Nursing plan for several years.

She was recognised in the Queen’s 2022 Jubilee Birthday Honours and received an MBE for services to District Nursing.

Steph continues to practice clinically as a District Nurse. She is a Queen’s Nurse and Fellow of the QNI.

Jo is a registered Physiotherapist and has worked in the NHS for over 27 years, with the last 22 years spent working in the community. During this time, Jo developed a passion for working with older people at risk of falling, having seen the impact of falls and associated injuries on people’s independence, confidence and quality of life. In 2006, Jo moved into a role as a Clinical Falls Specialist, setting up the Community Falls Service, providing evidence-based multifactorial falls risk assessments and interventions to older people at risk of falls and falls education sessions to other health and social care professionals in Leeds.

In 2021, Jo completed post graduate training at Masters level and has since been working as an Advanced Practitioner within the Leeds Community Falls Service, supporting complex high risk falls patients in the community. Jo is also the Falls Pathway Lead for Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, chairs the Trust’s Falls Improvement Group, and co-chairs the citywide Falls Steering Group with a Public Health colleague, leading workstream priorities on falls prevention as a collaborative approach across the system in Leeds.

Masline is a Quality Director, with over a decade of experience in nursing and healthcare leadership. A passionate advocate for excellence in social care, she has led national initiatives in clinical development, including internationally recognised work on Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) and OSCE support for internationally educated nurses. Masline is a Queen’s Nurse and a recipient of the Chief Nurse’s Gold Award for her outstanding contributions to social care nursing contributes. She currently co-chairs the BOB ICB Social Care Nursing Advisory Council and is known for her innovative, inclusive, and compassionate approach to improving patient care.  

I began my nursing career at the age of 19. During my training, I discovered my passion for surgery, and after qualifying as a State Registered Nurse (SRN), I specialized in Neurosurgery. However, I transitioned into Care of the Elderly primarily because the hours suited my young family. To my delight, I found my calling and haven’t looked back since. I have worked my way up from Staff Nurse on night duty to my current position as Nurse Manager of a 75-bedded nursing home. My passions include Dementia Care and Change Management. I firmly believe that to deliver excellent care to our residents, we must cultivate teams that are well-trained, supported, and valued. With 46 years of experience as a nurse, I have witnessed numerous changes in the field. My greatest wish is for Adult Social Care Nursing to be recognized as a specialty by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Walter Chikanya RN QN (QI Consul)is an accomplished social care leader recognised for his unwavering commitment to quality improvement, clinical governance, and compassionate care. He has driven transformational change, championing nurse independent practitioner practices and advocating for nursing associates, equality, and diversity. Awarded the Queen’s Nurse, Chief Nurse ASC Gold, and most recently the Chief Nurse ASC Gold Award, Walter’s contributions extend to active involvement in SCNAC boards, BOB ICB Nursing forums, DHSC roundtables, and the Florence Nightingale Foundation. His work exemplifies his dedication to enhancing social care services with excellence.
